The 4 Steps To Follow If Your Piggie Is Sick

Does your piggie look sick? Oh no! You should probably bring it to the vet! Read on to learn to steps of what exactly to do when your piggie is sick.

Step 1. Evaluate your piggie. Are you sure they're sick? Do they seem sick? Watch your piggie for a couple minutes. Don't rush it. This may seem crazy but it's a crucial step. Check this post: https://trishasguineapigadventures.blogspot.com/2021/03/sneezing.html and also this one: https://trishasguineapigadventures.blogspot.com/2020/11/a-guide-to-guinea-pig-safety.html
You might also want to take a couple minutes to take this short quiz!https://trishasguineapigadventures.blogspot.com/2020/06/is-your-guinea-pig-sick.html

Step 2. If you're totally sure that your piggie is sick or looks sick, you should find where the nearest vet is. You can search it up on Google or Google Maps. The vet should be for "small" or "exotic" animals. If you already know where your nearest vet is, then you can skip this step. You might also want to take a couple minutes to check out the office's website, to make sure it's good for guinea pigs and has all good information on there.

Step 3. Load your piggie. If you have a pet carrier, this is the BEST time for it! But if you don't, you can just use a medium or large sized cardboard box with high walls. No lids are needed if there are high walls. Fill the container with loads of hay and maybe some veggies. You can also put fleece liner or bedding on the bottom, but hay can also serve as bedding. Make sure to keep an eye on your guinea pig so they don't get out.

Step 4. Call the vet. If the veterinarian office allows walk-in visits, then skip this step. But you would want to make an appointment if it isn't an emergency. Call the vet using the phone number on the website. Ask for pricing and if they have an opening right away.

That's all you need to do to make sure your piggie is safe and sound. You may need to adjust these steps a little depending on your piggies' needs and and the scenario that is happening. If it is an emergency, DON'T WAIT. Go right away!
