Popcorning

You probably just read the title and thought, "What's popcorning?" Well, it's a common guinea pig behavior that's pretty cute. You'll learn more about it, in this post.

Popcorning is a common guinea pig behavior where guinea pigs jump up and down (hence the name). It probably won't be a direct jump, it might seem kinda sideways. Well, what does it mean? It means your guinea pig is really happy. This behavior is mostly common in younger guinea pigs, and once your guinea pig gets older, it won't popcorn as much.

Your guinea pig might popcorn when new hay comes, they get food, or just like that. If your guinea pig is popcorning, that's great! Just be happy that your piggie is happy. Sometimes popcorning may look weird, but don't worry, it's perfectly normal!

Want to know how popcorning looks like? There are countless videos on the Internet about guinea pigs doing this strange (and pretty cute) behavior.

(Note: I post YouTube videos on my channel every Tuesday and sometimes another time during the week. I will try to post on this blog every few days like usual, but these days I'm busy due to schoolwork and other things. New posts will be shorter and will possibly come less often than usual. Thanks for understanding.)

  3. Yes we observed the pop Corning behaviour of our Guinea pig OREO when we brought her home for the first time in July 19. She did it regularly when she was young and now she is 15 months old the pop corning behaviour has lessened.
Nice write up Trisha about pop corning in Guinea pigs.
