One Reason You Shouldn't Get Guinea Pigs

Guinea pigs are amazing pets to have, especially if you're getting a pet for the first time. If you want a pet that's low maintenance, easy to care for, and isn't so costly, guinea pigs are probably one of the best pets for you. But keep in mind that guinea pigs aren't so playful, and after a while you might notice that you are getting bored of them. If you're looking into getting a pet that's a lot like a dog or a cat but that's easier to care for, guinea pigs might not be the best option for you. Here's a little more about why, in this post.

Guinea pigs aren't as low maintenance as you might think. In fact, they are a little difficult to take care of. They need at least 2 meals a day, you need to clean the cage at least once a day (we do twice) and for all that, you don't get any playtime or anything out of it. A bit of a waste. After some time, you may realize having guinea pigs is just an extra chore.

To be honest, after you've had your guinea pigs for a while, you won't expect much out of them. Pebby popcorning might be the highlight of my day. As, with a dog, the highlight might be them playing fetch with you in the backyard. Guinea pigs aren't that playful and you can't play with them every day. I take my guinea pigs out for floor time once every two weeks or so.

Of course, guinea pigs cost less than dogs. Guinea pigs will cost anywhere from $40-$80 each when you get them (and you have to get two, so up to $160 it can cost). The supplies cost up to $40 every month, because you need to order hay, pellets, and bedding every couple weeks. It's still money, but not as much as dogs, and a lot more than you probably previously thought.

  2. Agreed Guinea pigs takes lot of time & attention all the day, if you give natural food it is cost effective. Formulated feeds , cage accessories are recurring costs.
But when u are alone they are nice
Gives joy looking at them & their activities ( restricted). They are cute & sweet. For me they are time pass & stress busters.. At the end of the day after all their chores you love them,
