Are Pellets Really Even Needed?
Pellets are a great source of nutrition for guinea pigs. They have many things that guinea pigs really need. But, many of those vitamins and minerals can also be found in hay, veggies, and fruits. Some people say pellets are just extra things that guinea pigs don't really need. That begs the question, are pellets really even needed? You're about to find out, in this post.
As said earlier, pellets have great nutrition value and have things that are essential to guinea pigs. Pellets have fiber, Vitamin C, Vitamin A, and many other vitamins and minerals. But, fiber can be found in hay, Vitamin C in fruits, and Vitamin A in veggies. (A little bit of fiber is also in everything!) Pellets are really just an extra food that isn't exactly necessary. In younger guinea pigs, however, pellets are really good for making sure your guinea pig grows up strong and healthy. In sick guinea pigs, pellets are great, too, because they provide extra nutrition so your guinea pig can recover fast.
So, pellets are not necessarily needed, unless your guinea pig is sick. Plus, it's always best to get pellets when you first get your guinea pigs so they grow up strong and healthy.
