The First Day

Did you wonder what the guinea pigs looked like on the first day we got them? Well, wonder no more!

We got Pebbles and Trixie from Petco on September 11th, 2019. They were both 2 months old then. When we went to see them, we first saw a big glass enclosure with 2 big huts (purple and green), hay, pellets, and two water bottles. There were also some stray pieces of cucumber here and there.

There were two guinea pigs in one hut, and two in the other. They were sleeping, all of them tightly packed. When the store associate removed the huts, we realized that in the purple hut, there were not two but FOUR tiny guinea pigs! All the six woke up and ran to the pellets immediately. All except one.

A small furry brown and white one, obviously a different breed from the rest, ran to the hay. She was eating calmly. If you have read my other posts, then you know this is Trixie! Then, another one of the guinea pigs who was eating hay ran looked around for her companion. She then also ran to the hay and sat with the furry brown and white one. We knew we had found our Pebbles!

So in the beginning, we had decided on the names... kind of. We wanted to name one guinea pig Pixie for sure. And the other one... well, we didn't know. We actually named Trixie Pixie in the beginning and were calling her that for the first 4 days or so. Then I thought of the name Trixie. So we started calling her Trixie. I actually forgot how we named Pebbles:)

I had been researching about guinea pigs for the past 2 years prior to getting guinea pigs. (Yes, really!). So, I knew I had to keep them alone the first few days and not to touch them. They were pretty scared, but they ate and played in the nighttime as we discovered their personalities and their favorite things.

After a few days, the guinea pigs seemed to have settled in. They were still pretty scared, but at this point Pebbles would let me touch her nose. Trixie was still worried, though. She has always been the shy and skittish one, but always the more adventures and curious one too.

Here is a picture of the guinea pigs on the first day:
